What is this?


What is this? I found this tiny, (what I can only describe as a "disk") in the street. It's hard (not flexible) clear plastic, and it has rough sides, it reminds me a bit of a tiny toy CD, but that doesn't seem right. Thanks! Looks like mini record, are the grooves uniform and circular, or are they in a spiral and non-uniform? You might need a magnifying glass to check.

It does actually look very much like a mini 12 inch record. But if that really is what it is, that kinda makes it more of a mystery - what the hell is it for and what's on it I wonder!!??

Before electronics became cheap, Many toys such as talking dolls and novelty items actually used little plastic records like that in them.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that's what it is now after earlier suggestions, my father also suggested the same thing. Now I just need to find a way yo play it so that I can listen to it's contents!

Thanks, for the suggestions, but it's not a CD - it's only plastic. I think that it's something a lot more basic than that.

The notches around the outside suggest that this could possibly be a rotary quadrature encoder wheel. I've been looking hard for an image of the type I'm thinking of, but to no avail. Was it always clear? Are there signs of paint having come off of it?

It doesn't so much look like part of a toy, but I am beginning to think (as per other suggestions) that that is exactly what it is...
